Muine Bheag junctions: what learners work on

The R705 / R724 junction in the town

The main road junction in central Bagenalstown where the road to Borris meets the road to Carlow. The T junction is the kind of feature where position tends to slip if a learner hasn't worked it before.

We run this junction in the EDT lessons before the pretest, so by test day it's a repeat. Most Muine Bheag learners build their confidence here on the way in and out of Royal Oak.

Passed my test on the first go thanks to my exceptional driving instructor , Derek Verso. The lessons were done quickly and very efficiently. I also did a couple of pre tests with Derek and this helped me stamp out any bad habits i may have been developing. Highly recommended driving instructor. Thank you Derek.

I failed my driving test first time I did it with a different driving school. At that time I didn't feel the full support from my instructor and felt scared of making mistakes, resulting in me failing the test. Additionally, it was very expensive... totally not worth the money! So now, I changed my driving school and im with Paul Mc Caughey on behalf with RSA school of motoring and I passed my driving test on my second attempt... I felt the full support from Paul and he made me felt comfortable with my driving skills. I can honestly recommend RSA school of motoring for so many good reasons. Its reasonably good value, you get full support from your instructor, and their cars are very nice to drive. Thank you so much Paul and RSA school of motoring!

Common questions

Driving lessons in Muine Bheag: frequently asked questions

How much do driving lessons in Muine Bheag cost?

Manual lessons in Muine Bheag are €53.27 each. The full 12-lesson EDT package, the cheapest per-hour rate, is €587.95. Pretest plus car hire on the day costs €183.63 in manual. Our pricing page has it all.

Will my EDT cover the Bagenalstown town centre?

Yes. The R705 / R724 junction in central Bagenalstown and the bridge over the Barrow are the early EDT work. From there the lesson runs the R448 spine north into Carlow. Most learners get the bridge crossing right after three or four loops. EDT detail.

Can I have automatic lessons in Muine Bheag?

Yes. Automatic lessons in Bagenalstown are €61.41 a hour or €659.24 for the 12-lesson set. The automatic car runs the same town centre, bridge and R448 routes. Read the automatic page.

Is a female driving instructor on the Bagenalstown rota?

Sometimes. Bagenalstown is one of the busier town pickup areas, so the female instructor's weekday slots fill quickly. Mention it on the contact form and we'll check the rota for the week you want to start.

Do I pay extra for being collected in Bagenalstown?

No. The instructor lives within driving distance of the town and the lesson starts at your door. The R448 trip back into Carlow is on the school's clock, not yours, on every visit.

How long is the run from Muine Bheag to Carlow test centre?

About twenty-two minutes by the R448 north, eighteen kilometres. Pretest morning we time the leave so you arrive at the centre in Graiguecullen with fifteen minutes' buffer for paperwork before the examiner calls you.

Will the lessons rehearse the bridge over the Barrow?

Yes. The bridge crossing between Bagenalstown and Royal Oak is narrow, slow and busy with town traffic. We loop it from both banks, with you reading the give-way line and the position out loud, until the move becomes natural.
