Driving lessons in Carlow
Eighteen towns, one test centre, five routes out of the Barrow valley. The pass rate at Carlow's centre sits in the low-sixties, above the national average, and the examiners still mark the basics.
Pass-rate and review figures are for RSA School of Motoring across the whole brand network, not Carlow-specific.
Driving lessons in County Carlow: eighteen towns covered
Mostly rural farmland along the Barrow valley, with the Blackstairs foothills rising to Mount Leinster in the south-east and flatter ground through the north of the county.
The Carlow examiner runs the route over the narrow Graiguecullen Bridge into the town centre on every test day.
Five routes out of Carlow: the N9 to Naas and Kilkenny, the N80 to Wexford, the R448 to Athy, the N81 to Wicklow.
The county is small enough that the same Approved Driving Instructor can take you through your EDT in one of the south Carlow villages, work the loop into Carlow town with you, and meet you at the test centre on test day. EDT, automatic and pretest with car hire all run here.
Driving test preparation in Carlow
What the Carlow centre run involves
The Carlow test centre is in Graiguecullen on the western bank of the River Barrow, and pretest routes cross the narrow Graiguecullen Bridge into Carlow town centre.
Because Carlow has one centre and not three, every learner here finishes EDT working the same approach. We loop it in the pretest car you sit your Carlow test in, so test day is a repeat run. Book a pretest lesson with car hire to lock the routine in.
EDT driving lessons in Carlow
The whole twelve-lesson EDT can run inside a twenty-minute drive of your door, anywhere in Carlow. That is not true in every county. In Carlow it is a function of geography: eighteen towns, one centre, R-roads that get you from village to centre without crossing another county.
The early lessons land on the R-roads behind your village. The middle lessons step up to the N9 corridor and the south Carlow loops. The last few work the run into Carlow town. Sequencing matches the geography.
The Approved Driving Instructor who takes you through the early Carlow lessons is the same one who runs the pretest into Carlow town. There is not a hand-off between three different people across an EDT cycle here. Carlow is small enough that continuity is structural, not a value-add we promise.
The full EDT programme runs over two to three months at one lesson a week. For Carlow pricing across the package levels, see the price list.

Why choose us for driving lessons in Carlow
One instructor across the EDT
Carlow's geography means the same Approved Driving Instructor can teach all twelve EDT lessons across the county. Not a hand-off between three people in three different parts of the country. The continuity is built into the size of the county, not promised in marketing.
The Carlow centre, learned cold
One test centre means every Carlow learner faces the same approach. We sequence the EDT so that by the time you sit the test, the run into Carlow town is a repeat, not a debut. Other counties with two or more centres cannot do this.
Two routes the examiner uses
The Carlow examiner pool runs the south loop or the north loop on most test days. We work both during pretest practice so whichever route you draw on the day, you have already driven it that week.
Driving lessons in Carlow: frequently asked questions
Where is the Carlow driving test centre
The Carlow driving test centre is in Carlow town. Your pretest practises the approach roads, town-centre traffic, junctions and roundabouts around the centre. Confirm your test centre booking on the official RSA system before your test date.
How does coverage of the eighteen Carlow towns work
One Approved Driving Instructor pool covers all eighteen Carlow towns and the surrounding rural areas. Pickup is included from home, work or college. The instructor lives within driving distance of your area, not at a Dublin HQ that dispatches into Carlow.
Can I do EDT in a south Carlow village and test in Carlow town
Yes. Carlow's geography makes that the default: EDT lessons happen near home in your village, the later lessons step up to the run into Carlow town, and the test happens at the Carlow centre. Same instructor across the whole sequence.
How much do lessons cost in Carlow
Carlow manual lessons start from €49.00 per lesson with the 12-lesson EDT package (€587.95 total). Single manual lessons cost €53.27. Full Carlow pricing across packages is on the price list.
Can I sit the test in your car
Yes. Your Carlow pretest and your driving test happen in the same dual-controlled car. We arrange the booking and the meet-up at the Carlow test centre.
Is there a female driving instructor in Carlow
Yes. Female Approved Driving Instructors are available across Carlow. Mention it when you book and we will match you with a female instructor for your lessons.
Do you offer free pick-up in Carlow
Yes. Pick-up from home, work or college is included in all Carlow towns and villages. You do not need to arrange your own transport to a lesson venue.
