The Yellowbelly county, southern Leinster

Wexford town on the Slaney. Rosslare south of the harbour.

Wexford is the most southern Leinster county. The N11 spine runs the eastern length of it from the Wicklow border down to the harbour town. Past Wexford town the road carries on south-east to Rosslare and the ferry port, the only one in Leinster. Past Rosslare there is no further Leinster.

The Slaney valley is the second spine: the river crosses from the Wicklow border through Bunclody, Enniscorthy and on to the harbour. Most central-Wexford learners drive the valley road for everyday business, not just for lessons.

Your Wexford Approved Driving Instructor lives in your part of the county. North-Wexford instructors know the Gorey side and the N11; central instructors know the Slaney valley; south-east instructors run the Rosslare and harbour-side roads; New Ross instructors cover the south-west. EDT, automatic and pretest with car hire all run from each catchment.

The Wexford town centre

Wexford town: where the Slaney meets the harbour

Town traffic, the harbour-side roads, the centre approach

Wexford town sits where the Slaney meets the harbour. The test centre is in the town. The approach involves town-centre streets, the harbour-side roads, and whichever spine route brought you in: the N11 from the north, the N25 from the west, or the harbour side from the south-east.

Examiners use the Wexford-town-area roads for the test loop. Pretest practice means working those routes until the run into the centre is a repeat. Book a pretest lesson with car hire to walk through the centre approach in the same dual-controlled car you will sit your test in.

EDT down the N11 and along the Slaney

EDT shaped by where in Wexford you start

Wexford is large enough that the early half of EDT depends heavily on which catchment you live in. Gorey-side learners spend the first lessons on the N11 corridor and the local roads off it. Enniscorthy-side learners spend them on the Slaney valley R-roads. Rosslare-side learners spend them on the harbour-port roads with their own particular traffic mix. New Ross learners spend them on the south-west roads toward the Hook Peninsula.

The middle of the programme is the convergence. Whichever side you started, the run toward Wexford town for centre work begins around lesson five or six. North-Wexford learners come down the N11; west-Wexford learners come east on the N25; Rosslare-side learners come west on the same N25 from the opposite direction.

The final lessons are the Wexford town centre approach, the harbour-side roads and the local examiner loops. Wherever you started, the centre work is the same. We loop the approach so the test day is a repeat run.

The full EDT programme is twelve hours wherever in Wexford it starts. For Wexford pricing across packages, see the price list.

The N11 spine and the lateral roads

N11 north, N25 west, the coastal R-roads

North on the N11 toward Wicklow

The N11 leaves Wexford town north through Enniscorthy, Ferns and Gorey toward the Wicklow border. The road carries on into Wicklow and on to Dublin. North-Wexford commuters use it daily.

West on the N25 to New Ross and Waterford

The N25 leaves Wexford town west through New Ross and on toward Waterford and the Munster boundary. New-Ross-side commuters and west-Wexford learners run this stretch during EDT for cross-county practice.

The N80 north-west to Bunclody and Carlow

The N80 leaves Enniscorthy north-west through Bunclody and on into Carlow town. The Carlow border sits at the western end of the route. Bunclody-side learners use the eastern stretch as standard EDT terrain.

Rosslare port and the south-east coast

The N25 east out of Wexford town runs to Rosslare and the ferry port. The R-roads from there lead south through Kilmore Quay, the Bannow side, and on toward Carnsore Point. Coastal traffic stays on the R-roads; ferry traffic stays on the N25.

What our southern-Leinster coverage means

Port-side EDT, Slaney-valley work, single-centre depth

Rosslare port traffic, taught on the actual roads

The ferry-port traffic at Rosslare is a real driving environment. Cars off the boat, unfamiliar drivers on left-hand-drive vehicles, the N25 east out of the port. We work it into EDT for south-east Wexford learners. No other Leinster county has this on the actual ground.

Slaney-valley R-roads, weekly local use

The R-roads through the Slaney valley from Bunclody through Enniscorthy to Wexford town are our central-Wexford instructors' weekly territory. Riverside-junction work and the run into the harbour town are part of the basic Wexford EDT for that catchment, not an extra.

Single centre, fifty-nine places, depth not breadth

Wexford has the single test centre but the largest town list of any Leinster county we cover. We have built up a deep working knowledge of the Wexford town approach because every Wexford learner runs it. Carlow has eighteen towns into one centre; Wexford has fifty-nine.

Common Wexford questions

Wexford town, the Slaney, Rosslare and the Hook

Where is the Wexford driving test centre

Wexford has a single driving test centre in Wexford town, beside the harbour. Your pretest works the approach roads, town-centre traffic, junctions and roundabouts around the centre. Routes feed in from the N11 spine north and from the harbour side. Confirm your test centre booking on the official RSA system before your test date.

Are the Gorey villages covered

Yes. Coverage extends across north Wexford including Gorey, Camolin, Ferns, Bunclody, Courtown and the smaller villages around them. Pickup terms match the rest of the county. North-Wexford learners spend later EDT lessons running south down the N11 toward the Wexford town centre.

Do lessons cover Rosslare port traffic

Yes. Rosslare and Rosslare Harbour pickup is included as standard. Ferry-port traffic is a real driving environment for south-east Wexford learners; we work it into EDT alongside the harbour-side roads. The Wexford town centre approach happens via the N25 west out of the Rosslare side.

Are the New Ross and Hook Peninsula villages covered

Yes. Coverage extends to New Ross, the Hook Peninsula villages from Arthurstown through Duncannon and Fethard-on-Sea, and the south-west Wexford catchment. Pickup terms match the rest of the county. The drive east to Wexford town for centre work happens in the back half of EDT.

How much do lessons cost in Wexford

Wexford manual lessons start from €49.00 per lesson with the 12-lesson EDT package (€587.95 total). Single manual lessons cost €53.27. Full Wexford pricing is on the price list.

Can I sit the test in your car

Yes. Your Wexford pretest and your driving test happen in the same dual-controlled car. We arrange the booking and the meet-up at the Wexford town test centre.
