Drogheda junctions: what learners work on

The Donore Road approach to the test centre

The road off the southern approaches that runs past the Drogheda test centre. The T junction is the kind of feature where observation tends to slip if a learner hasn't worked it before.

We run this junction in the EDT lessons before the pretest, so by test day it's a repeat. Most Drogheda learners build their confidence here on the way in and out of Tullyallen.

Just passed my test with the help of Will Rooney. I definitely wouldn’t have made it through it without him, he is an expert in driving tests and helped me immensely. Highly recommend William and the RSA School of Motoring.

I did my lessons with instructor Colman Sheehan. I've passed in one go! He's simply the best. Can't recommend enough! Very patient and informative. Didn't forget a thing. People say they're afraid of this part or that but there was nothing at all for me! He teached me from scratch. Always punctual and pleasant. I've heard loads of nonsense about some instructors around not teaching well or incorrect rules. Don't think twice guys! Contact Colman. You can have a laugh or be more quite with him depending on your personality. Very easy and comfortable to be around. My pre test route on the morning was exactly as test!!!

Common questions

Driving lessons in Drogheda: frequently asked questions

How much do driving lessons in Drogheda cost?

A single manual lesson in Drogheda is €53.27. The full 12-lesson EDT package is €587.95, which works out at €49 per lesson, the lowest per-hour rate on our list. Automatic lessons are €61.41 per hour. Full price list here.

Are EDT lessons run from Drogheda?

Yes. The R132 ring south of the river, the Donore Road approach to the test centre, and the Bull Ring junction in the historic town core do most of the EDT work. The Boyne crossing under the railway viaduct is one we loop early. EDT detail.

Can I take automatic lessons in Drogheda?

Yes. The automatic car works the same Donore Road and R132 loop. One lesson is €61.41, the 12-lesson package is €659.24. Automatic page covers what changes on test day.

Does a female instructor cover Drogheda?

Often. Drogheda is the largest town in the south of the county, so the rota carries weekday and weekend slots most weeks. Note your preference on the contact form and we'll match you with whoever's free first.

Is the pick-up free in Drogheda?

Yes. The instructor is based in Drogheda, so the run to your door is short and on the school's clock. Your hour starts when you sit in the dual-controlled car outside your house, not when the engine turns on at the depot.

How far is the Drogheda test centre from the town centre?

About five minutes, two kilometres. The centre sits on the Donore Road on the south side of town. Pretest lessons rehearse the exact morning approach so the route from your front door to the centre is a road you've already driven.

Will lessons cover the Bull Ring junction?

Yes. The convergence of West Street, Shop Street, and Peter Street at the Bull Ring is a four-out-of-five for difficulty. We loop it both ways with you reading the position out loud, until the line through it stops being a guess.
