Knockbridge junctions: what learners work on

The R171 / R178 junction in the village

The centre of the village where the R171 from Dundalk meets the R178 west towards Carrickmacross. The crossroads is the kind of feature where observation tends to slip if a learner hasn't worked it before.

We run this junction in the EDT lessons before the pretest, so by test day it's a repeat. Most Knockbridge learners build their confidence here on the way in and out of Dundalk.

Was extremely fortunate to have Mark as my second driving instructor. Never thought I’d be back on the roads learning to drive after having had an awful experience with a different instructor. Mark was extremely patient and encouraging and helped me pass my drivers test first time. I couldn’t have done it without having Mark as my instructor

I failed my driving test first time I did it with a different driving school. At that time I didn't feel the full support from my instructor and felt scared of making mistakes, resulting in me failing the test. Additionally, it was very expensive... totally not worth the money! So now, I changed my driving school and im with Paul Mc Caughey on behalf with RSA school of motoring and I passed my driving test on my second attempt... I felt the full support from Paul and he made me felt comfortable with my driving skills. I can honestly recommend RSA school of motoring for so many good reasons. Its reasonably good value, you get full support from your instructor, and their cars are very nice to drive. Thank you so much Paul and RSA school of motoring!

Common questions

Driving lessons in Knockbridge: frequently asked questions

What's the cost of a Knockbridge driving lesson?

A single manual lesson in Knockbridge is €53.27. The 12-lesson EDT works out at €587.95 (€49 per hour). Automatic comes in at €61.41 per hour, €659.24 for the 12-pack. Full pricing.

Where do EDT lessons in Knockbridge actually drive?

The R171 / R178 crossroads in the village centre, where the road from Dundalk meets the link west toward Carrickmacross, is the pretest stretch. The bridge over the Castletown River on the road out toward Tallanstown is the early speed-control practice. EDT detail.

Is automatic driving offered in Knockbridge?

Yes. The Dundalk automatic instructor reaches the village in twelve minutes. €61.41 per lesson, €659.24 for twelve. Same R178 working stretch in either gearbox. Automatic page.

Will a female instructor cover Knockbridge?

Often. Knockbridge is twelve minutes from the Dundalk depot, so the rota usually carries weekday and Saturday slots. Note your preference on the contact form and we'll match you to the closest free slot.

Are the Knockbridge pick-ups charged?

No. The R178 run from Dundalk is on the school's clock. The hour begins outside your front door in Knockbridge, not when the engine turns over at the depot. The drive out doesn't come off your time.

How long is the drive from Knockbridge to the Dundalk test centre?

About twelve minutes, seven kilometres east on the R178. Pretest lessons rehearse the exact morning loop so the test-day drive into the Carrickmacross Road is a road you've driven the lesson before.

Will I drive the bridge over the Castletown River?

Yes. The narrow river crossing on the road out toward Tallanstown is a give-way with a speed change either side. We loop it both ways during early lessons, with the brake point called out, until the slow approach is one less thing to think about.
